There is something different about experiencing Cristo Rey in person.
An LTN team is an opportunity to step into the life of the community – to serve alongside others, share meals, visit homes, meet students and families, worship together, and begin relationships that can cross differences in language, culture, age, and circumstance.
We go to Nicaragua to serve, but we don’t go believing that we have all the answers or that we are there to “fix” a community. We go to come alongside our friends in Cristo Rey, to share one another’s burdens, to learn from one another, and to experience the love of Jesus together.
That’s what Life Together means to us.
Why We Go
Jesus consistently moved toward people. He listened. He ate with them. He cared for their physical needs. He entered into their lives.
We want our teams to do the same.
A trip to Nicaragua certainly includes service. You may distribute food, visit a family, help deliver a bed, spend time with students, or assist with another need in the community. Those things matter.
But often, the most meaningful moments happen in between the activities – a brief conversation, laughter despite a language barrier, a child taking your hand, praying with a family, or realizing that someone you came to serve has something to teach you.
Our hope is that an LTN team doesn’t simply allow you to see the work of Life Together Nicaragua. We hope it allows you to experience life together and to see Jesus, your neighbor, and perhaps even your own life a little differently because of it.
What Will We Do?
Every LTN team is a little different. Rather than creating projects simply to give visiting teams something to do, we want teams to participate in the ongoing life and ministry of Cristo Rey.
Depending on the needs of the community and the timing of your visit, your team may:
- Serve alongside our feeding program, which provides meals to approximately 300 people each day
- Spend time with students and families involved in LTN’s education program
- Visit homes and hear the stories of people in Cristo Rey
- Distribute food, beds, mattresses, or other needed items
- Assist with home repair
- Participate in activities with children, students, seniors, and families
- Help with community projects or other needs identified by our team in Nicaragua
- Pray, worship, and share in opportunities to grow in faith together
We intentionally leave room for flexibility. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply be present with someone.
What Does a Typical Day Look Like?
No two days in Nicaragua are exactly alike, but most days include time serving in Cristo Rey, building relationships, sharing meals, and reflecting together as a team.
A day might begin with breakfast and prayer before traveling into Cristo Rey. You may spend the morning helping with an LTN ministry or visiting families, share lunch together, and spend the afternoon delivering needed items or participating in activities with students and community members.
In the evening, teams have time to eat, rest, talk about the day, and reflect on what they are seeing and learning.
We plan carefully – but we also encourage teams to arrive with flexibility. Nicaragua has a wonderful way of reminding us that relationships don’t always follow a schedule.
Who Can Go?
You don’t have to be a missionary, speak Spanish, or have previous international service experience to be part of an LTN team.
Our teams include people of different ages, backgrounds, professions, churches, and life experiences. Some people come with a church or organized group. Others join an existing team individually or with a friend or family member.
What matters most is a willingness to serve, learn, be flexible, and enter another culture with humility and respect.
LTN team members must be at least 15 years old. We welcome high school students to experience Nicaragua with us, but anyone under 18 must travel with an accompanying adult who is responsible for them throughout the trip. To ensure appropriate supervision, we require one accompanying adult for each minor.

Location
Teams serve primarily in Cristo Rey, a community outside Managua, Nicaragua, where Life Together Nicaragua has worked for many years.
Trip Length
Most teams spend approximately 5-8 days in Nicaragua, including travel days.
Cost
The typical cost is approximately $1300 per person, plus airfare. Costs include lodging, meals, in-country transportation, projects funds, etc. See our Teams Packet for current pricing and complete details.

Lodging & Transportation
LTN coordinates lodging and transportation while your team is in Nicaragua. Our local team helps guide your experience and accompanies teams during their time in Cristo Rey.
Spanish
Spanish is helpful, but it is not required. Don’t let a language barrier keep you from coming. Some of the best relationships we’ve seen begin with a smile, a handshake, and a willingness to try.

You don’t need to arrive in Nicaragua with special skills or all the right answers.
We simply ask you to come ready.

There will be opportunities to meet practical needs and support the ongoing work in Cristo Rey.

We believe our friends in Nicaragua have as much to teach us as we have to offer them.
Ready to be flexible.
Plans change. Needs change. Sometimes the unexpected moments become the most memorable ones.
Ready to build relationships.
People are never projects. We want the way we serve to reflect the dignity, value, and love Jesus shows every person.
Most importantly, come ready to see what God might do – not only through you, but in you.

Come and See
It’s difficult to fully explain Cristo Rey from a website.
You can read about the feeding program. You can see pictures of students. You can learn about the needs of families and the challenges of poverty. All of that is important.
But then you come.
You sit with someone. You hear their story. You laugh together. You pray together. You begin recognizing faces. People who seemed very different from you become people you know.
And somewhere along the way, the line between those serving and those being served becomes much less clear.
