Our team is changing

Today, we had a farewell party for two of our valued team members. Today was Deysi (in the bright blue shirt) and Yolanda’s (in the black tank top) last day working for Life Together Nicaragua. We are beyond thankful for their many years working with us and for being the hands and feet of Christ in their own community.

Yolanda has worked with us for 6 years. She worked hard in the kitchen! Yolanda’s was the best and could make all of us laugh! She especially loves hugs so I made sure to give her lots today!! She will staying home to take care of her two month old daughter and spend quality time with her family.

Deysi has worked for us for 7 years, but we have known her for 9 years. When we first met her it was hard to break the hard exterior of her heart. She was cautious around us but over time she has softened and grown into an incredible friend, mom, and worker. She will be leaving us to work for another non profit in Cristo Rey. We wish her all the best as she goes on this new endeavor!!

We will miss both of their spirited liveliness but as I said today, “It isn’t goodbye, it’s just see you later!”

Christmas in Cristo Rey 2015

“Look at my Servant, whom I have chosen.
He is my Beloved, who pleases me.
I will put my Spirit upon him,
and he will proclaim justice to the nations.
He will not fight or shout
or raise his voice in public.
He will not crush the weakest reed
or put out a flickering candle.
Finally he will cause justice to be victorious.
And his name will be the hope
of all the world.”

Matthew 12:18-21

Christmas for most Americans is a time of busyness.  We run around shopping, angry because we can’t find the right gift or a parking place.  We aren’t happy because we have to stand in long lines.  We start to get anxious about the credit card bills that will be coming in January.  It’s a time of going from one party to another.    Rushing through the celebrations, so you can visit every set of grandparents and parents.

For some, Christmas is the most difficult day of year.  It’s a time of sadness because of a great loss in their lives.  It’s a time of loneliness.  It’s a time you really want to celebrate and enjoy, but have a hard time just getting through the day.  For some, there are no family celebrations, there isn’t a tree, there are no presents.

Christmas is a beautiful reminder of the gift that God gave us…His Son!!  A gift that will bring peace to everyone who knows Him.  A gift that will allow us to be victorious.  A gift and a name that will give us HOPE in our world!

Regardless of how you spend your Christmas, we all have one thing in common- our HOPE!  Hope is what allows us to live each day freely.  Hope is what we look forward to everyday.  Hope is what we turn to when we are struggling to get through the day!  Hope is ALL we need!

Christmas in Cristo Rey is celebrated every year.  For the children of our feeding program, at their homes, there are no presents, there isn’t a Christmas tree, there isn’t a feast, there aren’t celebrations after celebrations.  So we decided that we, along with the help of our supporters, would celebrate Christmas with a huge party.  Make it a special day for a bunch of special kids.

We start the day with music, a special lunch of fried chicken, rice, salad, bread and a drink.  After lunch is done, we then give out bags of provisions- Love Bags.  Each bag of food will get their family through the holidays.  It is such a beautiful thing to watch, as kids receive their heavy bags of food.  They are so proud walking out of the Center as they meet their mom or dad in street and hand them the bag of food. Their faces light up as they know they are helping out their family.

The day is long and tiring but so worth it.  We want to thank everyone who donated money towards Christmas in Cristo Rey.  Thank you for making a difference in every child’s life who is a part of our feeding program.  Thank you to the volunteers who helped bottled every bottle of oil, bagged every bag of rice and beans and put every condiment in all the Love Bags!!  We couldn’t do any of this without you!!!

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!
We bless you from the house of the Lord.
The Lord is God,
and he has made his light to shine upon us.
Bind the festal sacrifice with cords,
up to the horns of the altar!
You are my God, and I will give thanks to you;
you are my God; I will extol you.
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever!

Psalms 118:26-29

In August of 2015, we celebrated the completion of our Center with a HUGE dedication party!!  We spent months and months finishing construction and preparing for the dedication.  The day finally arrived when we would give God all the praise, glory and credit for the incredible gift He placed in our hands!!

As the hour drew upon us, the line of people waiting to enter the property was literally down the road.  We were immediately struck with awe and humbleness as to the amount of people that had come to celebrate alongside us.  We served everyone that waited in line.  While people ate, we showed a video of our time so far in Cristo Rey.  From the first day we ever visited to the day before the dedication.  What an incredible site to see huge smiles across everyone’s faces as they picked themselves out in the video.

We had an incredible privilege to have our Nicaraguan church, Elevate, come out and celebrate with us.  We personally want to thank Pastor Dave and Claudia for investing their time to minister to the people of Cristo Rey, dedicate our building and anoint us and our staff with oil.  Thank you for praying over us and for your incredible words and vision that you shared!  We are blessed beyond words to have you all in our lives.

We also want to thank the generous donor who paid for the building to be completed. What an incredible gift and we pray that God will continue to pour His blessing upon you.  Thank you to our home church, Keystone, for laying that first brick ever on our property.  Thank you for the prayers that surround our property.  Thank you for the years of helping us build when thing needed to be built.  Thank you for constantly moving rocks from one place to another.  Thank you to Antioch Baptist Church who helped us “break ground” on our new center.  Over the years, Antioch has laid brick after brick to get our buildings up.  Thank you for your constant support and your hard work!!  Thank you to all the individuals who gave towards the furnishing of our state of the art kitchen!  Because of you, we have a beautiful and very functional kitchen!!!!  Thank you to Calvary Baptist Church, who purchased all of our chairs for us!  This is a huge blessing.  We no longer have to carry 100 chairs back and forth from our center to the pulperia!  To everyone else who prayed, donated or helped in anyway, we give you are thanks!!

As we stood and worshipped our Lord in song, dance and words (Spanish and English), we again were humbled and we give all praise to Him who has called us here to be a light, his hands, feet and mouth.  Thank you Father for entrusting us with this calling on our lives!  May we continue to keep the doors open at the Center for all those who need a place to rest their weary feet!  May you continue to provide the food (nutritionally and spiritually) and may all who enter this place see YOU!!

What is YOUR Story???

I’d like to tell you a story…..  It is a story about a little boy who lived far away in a different country….

I’m not sure how present his mother was in his life, but his father was always there.  His father was a hard worker, a humble man, and didn’t need much to keep him happy.  He was a farmer, had a beautiful family and enjoyed his life.

Now, the boy was the youngest child but that didn’t stop him from doing his responsibilities.  He worked hard.  My understanding was that he was a good looking kid, had beautiful eyes and had strength but you wouldn’t know it from just looking at him.  The boy kept to himself.  He didn’t have time for friends because he was so busy working and helping his dad on the family farm.  Truthfully, I think the animals on the farm were his best friends.  I think he talked more with the animals that he did with real human beings.

He was very educated.  He knew how to play instruments, dance, sing, he knew math, he knew how to write poetry, he knew strategies and logistics.  He was far from being just a farmer’s son. He was a Christian and knew that God was the living God of the world.  He was confident in his relationship with Christ.

One day, everything he knew would be tested.

You see, that one day, he didn’t know what was coming his way.  He didn’t know that everything he had been through in his young life that God was preparing him for this moment.  He was simply doing a task that his father asked him to do.  It was a simple task…to take lunch to his older brothers.  Anyone could have done it, even one of the farmhands.  However, this young boy did as his father said.  He wasn’t prepared for what was about to come.  He didn’t think ahead.  He just LISTENED and DID what his father had asked!

He left the comforts of his farm and headed to the valley.  As he approached the valley he heard cheers, laughter, he heard murmurs, he heard rumors, he heard crying, he heard fear, he heard mean and degrading words.  However, he continued to the valley. As he got closer to that valley, he got curious and began asking the others just sitting and waiting in the valley “What is going on”?  As they began to tell him that one of their greatest fears was coming true, the young boy became puzzled.  “What do you mean?”, he asked.  “You believe today is the day we are to be destroyed”?  “Wait, aren’t you the strongest and valiant in all of our country”?  “Why do you sit here and wait to be killed?”  “Why do you sit here in fear?” “Why are you doing NOTHING?”

With confidence, this boy knew how to solve the problem when everyone else was so afraid.  He was ready!  He was ready to look fear straight in the eyes and defeat it.  He knew that with God on his side, he could do the impossible.  He didn’t question himself.  He didn’t think twice.  He wasn’t afraid.  He just KNEW that he could win!

When others heard that this farmer’s boy was going to solve the problem they were all facing, they laughed at him, they mocked him.  They told him he couldn’t do it.  They tried to talk him out of it.  They had fear for his safety.  Even his own brothers told him he was stupid.  Even the giant problem that he was going to be facing head on even laughed at him, he thought it was all a joke.

However, this young boy had a secret.  He knew something that the others didn’t know.  He knew his training as a farmer would come in handy.  He knew that many times while tending his sheep, he had to keep the bad animals away from them. When the bad animals would break through the gate and grab one of his sheep, he would hunt the animal down and with his own hands he would kill the animal that was trying to hurt one of his sheep.  He knew his own strength.  He knew his training.  He knew that with one blow to the head of an animal that it would kill them instantly.  He also knew that all those times when the sheep grazed and he laid in the grass singing praises and worship his God, that RIGHT NOW his God would not fail him.  He had a relationship with the one true Shepherd!

As everyone else ran away from the valley, he ran directly into the eye of the valley.  As he looked up and faced that giant, he took a simple, smooth stone and with perfect aim and precision, he shot that stone into the air and killed that giant.

This boy was that- JUST A BOY!  He was a farmer’s son.  He was a nobody.  He was an outsider.  However,  This boy would dance before the Lord.  This boy would make mistakes, but this boy knew what it meant to be rescued.  This boy would go on to be a famous writer helping millions and millions of people know what it means to be rescued from a pit.  This boy would go on to be KING.  This boy would become a man after God’s own heart.  This boy would be part of the lineage of Jesus Christ himself.

This boy didn’t allow others to determine who he would become. This boy didn’t let times in the valley keep him down.  This boy didn’t let fear overtake him and paralyze him.  This boy knew that God was on his side.  This boy knew joy, hope, and love like no other.  This boy had a face to face relationship with God.

So, what is stopping you?  Why are you content in your valley?  Why do you let others tell you what you can and can’t do?  Why do you let your past determine how you are going to live your future?  Why do you believe that God can’t use you?  Why do we make the excuse that we need to do all these things first in order to prepare for battle, when sometimes all we need is faith and a stone.  Why do we tell teens they can’t make an impact because they are only teenagers?  Why do we let fear stop us dead in our tracks?  Why do we not go at all?  Why don’t we listen?  Why do we make it so complicated?  Why do we make excuses?

I encourage you…..STOP MAKING EXCUSES.
GRAB HOLD OF GOD.  GRAB HOLD OF A STONE.  TAKE HOLD OF YOUR FEARS, LOOK THEM IN THE FACE AND KILL THEM.

BE CONFIDENT THAT GOD IS ON YOUR SIDE!  BE CONFIDENT THAT IN EVERYTHING GOD CONQUERS!  BE CONFIDENT THAT GOD WINS! BE CONFIDENT!!

GO!!

GO AND FEED A CHILD!  GO AND LOVE THE UNLOVED!  GO AND SING AND DANCE BEFORE THE LORD!  GO AND TELL THE GOOD NEWS!  GO AND MAKE DISCIPLES!

JUST GO!!!!!

It’s ALL in God’s Timing!

“It’s all in God’s timing” is something that we hear often. Many times, it’s a phrase that drives us absolutely bonkers!! It is one of the hard quotes to believe at times. In August 2014, this is exactly how we felt. There are many times that we don’t exactly share 100% of our frustrations. We don’t share how or what we are feeling. We don’t share the hard times we face being missionaries. We don’t share the hurtful things that come into our lives. When we left for the States in August, we were completely exhausted- emotionally and physically. We were BROKE. We had been hurt to our inner core by a circumstance that had happened here in Nicaragua. We left for the States not really knowing what to expect, but just that we needed to “get a break”. As we travelled from state to state trying to raise more support for the feeding program, building project (feeding center) and for our future youth building, we began to get discouraged. You see, before we left for the States, Tim and I secretly had a “number” in our heads we wanted to come back with. While the churches in the States were FABULOUS and really poured into us, we were so focused on what we needed to accomplish while in the States, that we became overwhelmed when we didn’t see those things being accomplished. When we arrived back in Nicaragua, we were hit with another blow, the youth building we wanted so badly became unavailable. We cried about it and really wept over everything that had happened over the past couple of months. It was then that we fell to our knees and we began praying extra hard and long. We began to question if Cristo Rey was even where God wanted us anymore. Was God calling us in a different direction? Was God not answering our prayers/wants because He was trying to tell us something different? Did we do something wrong and that is why God didn’t want to bless us anymore? All these questions and so many more….As we continued to pray, God breathed upon us a renewal. A reminder that His ways are perfect. A reminder that He is ultimately in control and that this was His ministry. A reminder that our wants aren’t necessarily His. A reminder that because we want it NOW, doesn’t mean He’ll give it to us NOW! It was in quiet that we were finally at peace with where God wanted us. We would continue to work in Cristo Rey. We would continue to run the feeding program. We would start the youth program. Anything beyond that was not important! Well, a month after we returned from the States, we received an email from someone in the States. He wanted to know if he could send some money for Christmas in Cristo Rey. Well, ABSOLUTELY!! We’ll never tell anyone no if they want to send money. He sent a lovely amount. A couple of weeks later, this same man emailed us again and said He really believed the Lord wanted him to give more. He asked us what our needs were. We shared with him that we desperately needed a feeding center. That the tents we are using were falling to pieces. Without hesitation, he said he would send another check in the mail and to cash it as soon as we got it. We thanked the Lord for the money that was being sent. We thought, a little seed money to really start fundraising for the new feeding center was exactly what we needed. Two weeks later, our accountant texted us and asked us what he was supposed to do with the check. We said, DEPOSIT IT! He said there was a problem because the amount of the check was over our limit for deposits in one month. Tim quickly got on the phone. He asked our accountant how much the check was for, when he told us, Tim literally dropped the phone and I started to cry! At that moment in time, we knew exactly this is what God was trying to tell us the last couple of months when we were so wrapped up in what WE WANTED! God’s timing is PERFECT! His WAYS are PERFECT! Fast forward two weeks later and another family from the States contacted us and told us they wanted to send money towards the building project. Again, we were completely BLOWN AWAY! God is so generous! God was working in these two families lives way before we ever went to the States in August. You see, both families NEVER heard us speak, share the stories of our two years here, nor never heard our needs while we were in the States. They simply listened to God!! Now, hold onto your seats. You remember earlier, when I said that when we left for the States in August, we had a number in our head of what we wanted to raise?? GUESS WHAT!?!?! The amounts combined that these two families gave was EXACTLY THE SAME NUMBER! God is SOOO AWESOME! And for an extra little added humor, God laid it on our home church’s heart to collect an offering on Christmas Eve. The families of our home church collected an INSANE amount to be used for our ministry needs! SERIOUSLY! GOD IS AWESOME!! With all that being said, we wanted to share that YESTERDAY, we broke ground for the new feeding/youth center and new kitchen! As tears fill our eyes we are reminded of: Ephesians 3:17-21: “And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in Him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is SO GREAT you will NEVER fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now GLORY BE TO GOD! By HIS MIGHTY POWER at work within us, he is able to ACCOMPLISH infinitely more than we could ever dare to ASK or HOPE! May HE be GIVEN GLORY in the CHURCH and in CHRIST JESUS FOREVER and EVER THROUGH ENDLESS AGES! Amen”!

Christmas in Cristo Rey 2014

For many, Christmas is always an exciting time of the year.  Excitement as winter and snow shows their faces, Christmas lights and trees go up, parties, wrapping presents, spending time with family.

For some families in Cristo Rey, there are fireworks and if you are one of the lucky ones- there is a meal served at midnight on Christmas Eve.  There is family and community.  There is laughter and love.   However, for many of our families at the feeding center, Christmas isn’t exciting.  In fact, for many it is just another day.  Another day to face the daily struggles of living.  Another day to struggle to find food to feed your children.  Another day of searching through garbage trying to find something that is recyclable so you can sell it and buy a pound of rice.  There are no Christmas trees, there are no Christmas lights, there are no presents.

For us as a ministry, we want for just one day the children to laugh, to get a special meal and then receive a package of food that will get their families through Christmas and New Years.  Trust us, it takes a LOT of work to prepare for that ONE day.  It takes time and effort to promote it, update website, send emails, BEG for money in order to do any of this.  It not only takes our time, it takes two full days of work for the ladies that work for us.  It takes lots of volunteers.  It takes a full day to go to the market and buy all the food.  It takes another full day to go and shop for presents. It takes another full day make all of the love bags.  BUT we wouldn’t trade it for anything!!!  There is nothing greater than seeing children laugh and smile or to have a child give you a hug and say thank you.  There is nothing greater than children gobbling up all their food and then saying how delicious it was.

IMG_2174 - Version 2

This is Adan’s mom.  Adan is 3 years old.  Adan is newer to the feeding program.  He comes but not as much as other kids.  When we gave the tickets out for Christmas in Cristo Rey, Adan didn’t receive a ticket at first.  However, we had 38 extra tickets to give out.  Adan’s mom waited in line and was very respectful so we gave her a ticket so Adan could enter.  As she sat down, Adan gobbled up all his food.  Next, they came forward to get their Love Bag.  As Adan’s mom approached me, she said, “Gracias!” and immediately started crying.  I gave her a big hug and asked her what was wrong.  She began to tell me that Adan’s dad and her husband died in May.  They have been having a really hard time.  She told me that she didn’t have any food to feed Adan during the holiday break and was for thankful for the bag of food that she received.

People, THAT IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT!!!  It’s not about the presents, the tree, the lights…it’s about being the HANDS, FEET AND MOUTH of JESUS CHRIST!  Jesus KNEW that Adan’s mom needed food.  Jesus KNEW that Adan’s mom needed a hug.  Jesus KNEW that Adan’s mom needed love.  Jesus KNEW before we ever started handing out tickets, that Adan would be chosen to get a ticket.  Jesus KNEW that Adan and his mom needed to see HIM!!

For us, that is what Christmas in Cristo Rey is about.  It’s not to ask people for more money.  If that were the case, we’d be asking EVERY DAY for money!!  It’s about giving single moms an opportunity to feed their children.  It’s about giving children a day to laugh, have fun and enjoy an opportunity to present their families with a Love Bag.  It’s about seeing our ladies give back to their own community.  It’s about celebrating a baby born in a manager!

We want to THANK EVERYONE who gave towards Christmas in Cristo Rey.  We couldn’t do ANY of this WITHOUT you!!!  Thank you for believing in Life Together Nicaragua and in everything we do here in Nicaragua.  We are humbled by your generosity!!  We can’t wait for Christmas in Cristo Rey 2015!!

ANOTHER YEAR, ANOTHER TEAM SEASON!!!!!!!!

At Life Together Nicaragua, we LOVE team season.  We love the adventure, the excitement, the wonder of American teams coming to Nicaragua and serving God and the people of Cristo Rey.  We know first-hand, the effects a short-term mission trip can have.  We personally want to thank everyone who came and supported Life Together Nicaragua and the work that God is doing in Cristo Rey!!  We love each of you and couldn’t do it without you!!!

David and Carol Taylor:  Words can’t express the joy that comes when family come to visit!!  You have supported us from day one.  We love you both so much.  We love that you love our children in Cristo Rey as much as we do.  Thanks for being “Grandpa and Grandma” to them.

Keystone Community Church:    Our home church……there is just something about your home church coming that gives you new energy to keep going.  We love that Keystone opened their hearts and took kids from Cristo Rey to a fun day at the zoo and lunch!!  At first everyone is super shy, but then we see hands being held, hugs being given, words being shared.  It’s so beautiful!!  Thank you for building 4 incredible houses for 4 incredible families!!  You have made a difference in their lives by just giving them shelter!  Thank you for introducing the kids to RAINBOW LOOMS!!  To this day, we see kids all over Cristo Rey wearing bracelets and necklaces.  Thank you for all the crafts you did with the kids in the afternoons.  To all the nurses, thank you for teaching a basic first-aid class!  We don’t think we have ever laughed so hard; than when we watched the ladies practice the Heimlich Maneuver!!  Thank you for the surprises!! Money to build a wall, food for the feeding program and the best surprise of all….a best-friend!!!!!  Just remember, when times are tough or you are in a hurry……EAT A KIND BAR!!!

60 Days Walking- Joey, James and Alex:  We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we received an email from Beautiful Feet asking us if we wanted to host three guys for the week.  Without hesitation, we said, “Yes!”  Little did we know that saying “Yes” would change our lives the way it did!  We now proudly have three new sons!!  When Amy was driving to meet the guys, she really had no idea who she was looking for, but as she pulled into the parking lot, there were 3 gringos with gringo backpacks!!  She knew she was at the right place.  We immediately, threw their backpacks in the back of the truck and off to Cristo Rey.  We threw these three guys into work right away.  Throughout the week, they assisted in building houses; They let little girls put pony-tails in their hair and beards; They prayed over the Keystone team; they got REALLY sick; they got to attend a quinceañera; they got to share life with us as a family and with the people of Cristo Rey.  We love these three guys!!  Joey, James and Alex:  you will ALWAYS have a room at our house!   We love you!!!

Dan and Kay VanDyke:  We had to lie to get you here, but it was all worth it!!  To see the look on Jessi’s face when she discovered you in the airport was PRICELESS!!!  Thank you for coming and seeing what your daughter had invested her life in for a whole year!!  Thank you for working hard in Cristo Rey!!  Thank you for loving on us as a family!!  We are so beyond thankful and grateful for you!!

They coming wanting to help and make a difference in the lives of people in Cristo Rey!!  Thank you for taking some of our children out to the volcano and lunch!!  Thank you for providing them with backpacks and goodies!!  There is nothing that fills our hearts more than seeing kids being loved on and that is exactly what you did!!  Thank you for doing an incredible VBS throughout the week.  Thank you for playing baseball and games with the kids!  Thank you for giving Bibles, rice and beans and everything else!  Thank you Diana for teaching the ladies a new crocheting stitch.  Thank you guys for building one of our walls!! Thank you for buying us a NEW REFRIGERATOR!!!  No more FROZEN food!  Thank you for giving us a weekend away as a family!  We love you guys so much!  Thank you for investing in us and in Life Together Nicaragua!!

Riverside Church Youth #1:  What a CRAZY group of kids!!!  We love the way Riverside does a “VBS” or as they call it “Camp”!  The teens come down with so much excitement and energy!  Our kids in Cristo Rey love this team!  They love being divided up in colored teams and getting excited over which team is in the lead.  Even thought, Ryan, makes up the scores as the week progresses.  Thank you for coming down and bringing enthusiasm with you!  Thank you for not being afraid to be loud and crazy!!  Thank you for TONS of water games!  Thank you for HOTDOGS!!  Thank you for singing “O Happy Day” over and over and over!  We love, to this day, hearing kids in Cristo Rey singing that song!!  Thank you for visiting the dump and bringing water to the people who work in the dump.  It’s a small jesture to us, but to them it is HUGE!!  Our favorite thing about this group is when they return to the guest home at night and have praise and worship for hours.  It’s beautiful to watch teenagers worship, weep, and shout praises to their God!  Thank you guys for being AWESOME!!!

The Mulholland Family:  David, Kim, Samantha, Jonathan and Mark- it was incredible to have you come and be part of our family for a week!!  Thank you for bringing us all the yummy snacks!!  Thank you for letting Samantha come and be a part of our family every summer.  Thank you for allowing Adilia and Maria Jose come over for the weekend!  Thanks for taking them zip lining!!  What a joy to watch those two girls scared out of their mind zip lining, but they finished the course and in the end had HUGE smiles across their faces!  The biggest thing about your week, that will be forever in our hearts, was when you took the music class kids to the waterpark!!  Oh my gosh……the kids were so happy!!!  Hearing the screams come from the slides, kids climbing on top of you when they hit the water, kids wanting you to take them back to the end of the pool so they can climb the steps and do it all over again was PRICELESS!!  Thank you for feeding the kids that day and just pouring into them.  The music class kids are asking when they can go back!!  Thank you for celebrating Samantha’s birthday with the kids- piñata and cake!!!!!  Thank you for being our friends!!

Andrew from International Samaritans:  Thank you for taking the time during your visit to Nicaragua to come and see what Life Together Nicaragua is all about!  We pray that visit to Cristo Rey will be forever engraved in your heart!  Next time, we promise the feeding program will be going when you come and visit!

Debbie Gann and Daughters:  Thank you for coming to Cristo Rey!  Thank you for bringing your daughters!!  Thank you for giving some of the feeding program kids much needed fluoride treatments!  Thank you for coming to Nicaragua and making Life Together Nicaragua part of your trip!  You and your daughters are welcome anytime!!

Danielle Schwartz and NCompass:  When you first contacted us about coming to visit, we were excited.  We were so happy one of the members from our Mennonite team from the previous year was coming back to visit.  However, when you pulled up to the feeding center, we quickly realized we had the wrong person in our mind!  Oops!!  Regardless of what we thought, we are so thankful for you and your friend coming to visit the feeding center and Cristo Rey!!  Thank you for wanting to make a difference in Nicaragua!!

Mark and Miranda Ludy:  Our brother and sister from another mother!  Crazy!!!  So many times throughout the day in Cristo Rey, people asked us if we were related.  We’d say no and they would call us liars!  It’s incredible the bond that was quickly formed!  If felt like we had known you for years, even though it was the first time we met!  Thank you for taking us out to dinner and just being real with us!!  We are so excited about the journey God has called you too!  We can’t wait for the day when you get to Nicaragua permanently!!  We love you guys!

Berean Baptist Church Youth:  One of our favorite groups of all time!!  There is a huge difference in the impact a team makes throughout their time in Nicaragua, when the team comes to impact the nation and not just their own youth.  These youth spends months praying about their time here in Nicaragua, about the youth they’ll be working with, about how God can use them to be His hands, feet and mouth.  This team will be forever in our hearts.  We fell in love with each of the youth.  Thank you Berean youth for being real with the kids in Cristo Rey.  Thank you for the crazy minute-to-win-it games!  Thank you for the soccer game and water balloon games.  Thank you for not caring about the downpour of rain and playing with the kids and getting all muddy!  Thank you for cooking the food for the feeding program.  Most importantly, thank you for taking the time to invest in 12 youth from Cristo Rey!  The weekend that you took those 12 youth out of Cristo Rey to a camp ground was incredible!  Thank you for opening up and sharing your own personal stories! Thank you for loving and praying for the kids!  Thank you for introducing them to SMORES!  Thank you for playing silly games!!  Thank you for a simple salvation message.  Thank you for the Spanish Action Bibles!!  Thank you for the parents night and all the pizza!  Thank you for taking the time to make a movie of the youth weekend!  Thank you for taking the time to make each youth a scrap book.  Thank you for taking the staff ladies out on a much needed ladies’ day.  Thank you for the spa day, lunch, foot washing ceremony and the beautiful Bibles you gave each of them!  We love you all very much!  Thank you for welcoming our boys in your lives!  We are blessed to have each of you in our lives!

Charleston Church of Christ College Group:  It was a quick day when you were here!!  We know sickness over took your time in Cristo Rey!!  Thank you for bringing down plates and bowls for the feeding program!!  They were much needed!!  We hope the next time you come back to Nicaragua, you’ll make Cristo Rey one of your stops!  Thank you for coming and having fun with the kids!!

Riverside Church Youth #2:  Thank you to Beautiful Feet for organizing the two trips with Riverside Church!  We love the youth at Riverside Church!  Thank you again for being crazy and wild the week you were in Cristo Rey! Thank you for the incredible camp that you put on for the kids in the feeding program! Thank you for running up and down the road with the kids when it began to downpour!  Thank you for doing back flips in the mud!!

St John’s United Methodist Church Youth:  Rob (GO BLUE) and his youth are incredible!!!  During their week in Cristo Rey, the built two houses!!  While other churches and individuals paid for the houses to be build, St Johns youth were the hands to get the houses built!  One of our favorite parts with this team was after they built the houses for the two families, they split up and each member of the team went to a different part of the house and laid hands on the house and prayed for the house.  It was beautiful!!  Your willingness to do hard manual labor brought two families much joy!!  Thank you for playing with the kids in the afternoon and truly being servants!  Thank you for the INCREDIBLE dinner at La Finca!!  We love each of you and pray as God is directing you in high school, college or the military that you will continue to follow in His footsteps!!!

Caleb and JoAnna Dawson:  There are no words to describe our love for you two!  Over the past year, you have become our friends.  It’s beautiful to know people who love our kids as much as we do!  Your spirits and willingness to serve the people of Cristo Rey is truly of Christ! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being you and for sharing life with us and the families of Cristo Rey!!  Thank you for taking 11 children out of Cristo Rey for food, a movie, face painting, food and more food!!  There isn’t a day that goes by that one of those children don’t ask us, “When is Caleb and JoAnna coming back?”  You have made a real difference in these children’s lives!  Thank you for understanding our Remington and loving on him!  Thank you for being cool with Dylan!  We love you both so much and are excited to see the next steps where God is directing you!  Be faithful to Him and He will be faithful to you!!  Love you both!

Can you believe it….18 TEAMS in 2014!!  Crazy, we know!!  It’s tiring, sometimes frustrating, but team season is all worth it!  As we reflect on this past year and all that God has done in Cristo Rey, at the feeding center, in our family’s life and in Life Together Nicaragua, we are COMPLETELY blown away!  From the bottom of the Taylor’s hearts, the staff at Cristo Rey, and the families of Cristo Rey;  we say “THANK YOU!!!!”

Christmas In Cristo Rey 2014

Christmas in Cristo Rey is something we look forward to every year. We love seeing the smiles across kids faces as they get a big plate of food- fried chicken, rice, bread and a bottle of pop. We love seeing the love come across their faces as they walk across the property with their Love Bag in hand, carrying it to their families waiting outside the gate. It fills our heart!! At Christmas, most of these children won’t celebrate. They won’t have presents to open or food to eat. This is the one day that we can make a child’s dream come true and give them a Christmas to remember.

In order to make this happen, we need to fund raise. On December 2, 2014, it is #GivingTuesday. On this day, we’ll have a special fundraiser to raise funds for Christmas in Cristo Rey 2014. During this event, we’ll have special drawings and give aways. All drawings and giveaways will happen through our Facebook Page…www.facebook.com/LifeTogetherNicaragua.

If you haven’t “LIKED” our page yet, please do so. That way you’ll know everything that is happening on December 2.
